Maddy Associates

The Maddy Associates provide financial support the Institute and host luncheons featuring a diverse array of distinguished state and national speakers to discuss topics of importance to our region, state and nation.

In June of 2005 The Maddy Institute officially launched the Maddy Associates program to bring together a diverse array of distinguished state and national speakers to discuss topics of importance to our region, our state and our nation. Modeled after the Commonwealth Club of California, the Maddy Associates program has been designed to be the key public affairs forum to for Central California – a place where community leaders and those concerned about our region can learn and debate issues of public concern.

The 2012-2013 Maddy Associates program includes:
  • The annual “Sacramento Update” with State Senate and State Assembly members from throughout the San Joaquin Valley. Past participants have included Assembly members Linda Halderman, Kristen Olsen, David Valadao, Juan Arambula, Bill Maze, Nicole Parra, Mike Villines, Danny Gilmore, Connie Conway, and Senator Dave Cogdill. The program is designed so that the Maddy Associates will have the opportunity to meet with each of the legislators in small groups to learn and discuss the regional issues currently being addressed in Sacramento.
  • The annual “DC Update” with Members of the Valley’s Federal Delegation. Past participants have included Congressman Jim Costa, Congressman Devin Nunes, Congressman George Radanovich and Congressman Dennis Cardoza. Members are able to meet with their Federal Legislators in a small and intimate setting to discuss topics of regional importance to them. Members are also updated on the most recent dealings in Washington, D.C.
  • The San Joaquin Valley Newspapers Editorial Round Table: What will be making news in the Valley and State in the current year? A conversation with the Editorial Boards of the region’s leading newspapers from Bakersfield, Visalia, Fresno and Modesto on the key issues impacting the San Joaquin Valley. With Fresno Bee editorial editor Jim Boren, Visalia Times-Delta senior editor Paul Hurley, Modesto Bee editorial editor Judy Sly and former editorial editor of the Bakersfield Californian Dianne Hardisty for our 2011 San Joaquin Valley Newspapers Editorial Round Table.
