The State Superintendent of Education has called on local school administrators to collaborate in the area of Civic Education for K-12 schools, which includes:
- Service Learning
- Character Education
- Youth Leadership and Civic Engagement
- Safe and Healthy Schools
- Human Relations and Multicultural Competence
- School to Career Vocational Preparation
- Community-Parent-School Partnerships
The Maddy Institute is working with County Superintendents in Region 7 (Fresno, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced and Tulare Counties) to explore the creation of a Civic Education Council in the region.
